Laurent Bordes and Annica Landais-Haapa are the newest urban winemakers, travelling the vineyards of France in the quest for good grapes. In a former WWII bunker in the heart of Bordeaux, Les Chais du Port de la Lune is the first cellar in a long time to vinify, press and mature wines in the city, channelling the energy of a new generation of young and dynamic winegrowers through micro-cuvées designed for the nightly imbibe.

Partnering with growers across ten regions in France, the project focuses on out-of-the-ordinary blends, with little or no interventions apart from a little sulphites, utilizing grapes that have been grown organically, biodynamically or on farms in the process of conversion. Describing his philosophy, winemaker Laurent Borders said, “We work like fair trade. We buy the grapes at a high price so that the winegrowers continue to improve the quality and the wine is better… Our values are to create a collaboration and a collective.”

The aim of this collective building is to dust off the world of wine, not as a competitor to the 8000 châteaux of Bordeaux making Bordeaux styles, but for the city dweller to access a connection with the agriculture and winemaking practices bringing creativity and new expressions to the wines of France.
